  Irving Pet Hospital Vaccination Protocol

Canine Vaccine Protocol
Schedule for all canines which have received appropriate colostrum, early mother’s milk richest in protective antibiotics. Hand raised (bottle fed) dogs shall be vaccinated at your doctor’s direction.

D.A.P.P.: Distemper, Adenovirus (canine hepatitis), Parainfluenza, Parvovirus
First vaccine given at 8 weeks of age. This vaccine shall be followed by at least 2 boosters given 3-4 weeks apart. Thus, dogs will receive the D.A.P.P. vaccine at 8 weeks of age, again at 12 weeks of age, and again at 16 weeks of age. Dogs will then be vaccinated at 15 months of age, and every three years thereafter.

Rabies Vaccine:
Dogs shall first be vaccinated for rabies between 16 and 24 weeks of age. A booster will be given at 15 months of age, and every three years thereafter. Dogs are required in California to be vaccinated against rabies at these intervals.

Leptospirosis:
This is an optional vaccine that should not be given before 12 weeks of age. After initial vaccine it will be boosted in 3-4 weeks and then 1 year thereafter. This vaccine shall be a purified 4-way multivalent vaccine covering grippotyphosa, canicola, icterohemorrhagica, and pomona.

Bordatella:
This is an optional vaccine given at the frequency as regulated by your boarding or grooming facility. First vaccine is given locally (internasal, the preferred method) or subcutaneously no earlier than 4 weeks of age. Labeled for 1 year efficacy (your boarding/grooming facility may require an every six month booster).

Feline Vaccine Protocol
Schedule for all felines which have received appropriate colostrum (see above Canine Vaccine Protocol). Hand raised (bottle fed) cats shall be vaccinated at your doctor’s direction.

F.V.R.C.P.C.: Feline Virus Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia, Chlamydia psittaci
First vaccine given at 8 weeks of age. This vaccine shall be followed by 2 boosters given 3-4 weeks apart. Thus a cat will receive the F.V.R.C.P.C. vaccine at 8 weeks of age, again at 12 weeks of age, and again at 16 weeks of age. Cats will then be vaccinated at 15 months of age and again every three years after.

***Cats which live exclusively indoors do not require vaccination after 15 months of age instead are vaccinated every three years after initial series.

Rabies Vaccine:
Cats shall first be vaccinated for rabies between the ages of 16 and 24 weeks of age. A booster will be given at 15 months of age, and every three years there after. In California cats are not required to have Rabies vaccinations.

*** Cats which live exclusively indoors do not require vaccination unless indicated by travel.

FeLV Vaccine: Feline Leukemia Virus
This is an optional vaccine for indoor/outdoor cats that shall not be given before 12 weeks of age. Initial vaccine series shall be boosted in 3-4 weeks. After initial series vaccine will be efficacious for one year. One year booster shall be followed by every three year vaccination.
